What a beautiful article. You tackled the sensitivities with kindness and good faith. I have never had children although I do have views on parenting of course. Even if you have never been a parent you have been a child, and you will remember what was positive and what was negative about the experience! I can imagine how difficult it must be to navigate these turbulent times as a parent and I feel for all parents. Thanks Kate, this was really interesting. The clip of Sadhguru was superb.

Great piece. As a side note I really hope "chestfeeding" doesn't become an actual term used by our medical institutions.

Brilliant article, as ever. You handle every subject with such grace. There is nothing like being a parent and seeing a child develop and grow daily. As a class teacher I get that privilege again and again. Happy (yet tiring). Thanks for another insightful post.

Excellent and inspiring post! I love the quote from Jeanne Manford regarding the unconditional love for her child, and as you say, this will resonate with any 'parent'. I have both listened to the podcast version and read the post, as I wanted to really focus in on your ideas here, and there are some excellent points about the variety of parents, as well as this not necessarily indicating the taking care of children. There are many people who mentor or otherwise care for people and the planet that would qualify for the title of 'parenting'.

Thank you for the thought-provoking piece, as always! : )

Really great article, so inspiring for me, a mom-to-be! So many possibilities, very sweet and sensitive too.

I find ideas about parenting, caring for children and the many different 'types' of family such an interesting topic. You make a great point about the huge number of parents who are bringing up kids solo. Just like gay parents and other so-called 'non-normative' family structures, they are seen by many as 'other' and not the ideal.

Thanks for all these great links, Kate. I'm thinking Uncle will be a good one to watch with my son. He's OBSESSED with Modern Fam, and it's hard to persuade him to venture away from it!
