I enjoyed this interview. I haven't travelled outside the UK for years so Tom's newsletter looks like an excellent way to travel! (I love the books of Bill Bryson too).

You won't be disappointed!

😊 Kate it is, thanks.

Always wanted to visit New England, mostly for literary reasons 😅 (Lovecraft's descriptions, essentially, which may not be the best thing to go off 🤷‍♂️)

It's good if you can love both temperature extremes 😁

Awesome, thanks Kathleen (ok I should ask: do you prefer Kate or Kathleen, or Kathy? I think you've signed off as Kate before but I could be wrong 😅). Looking forward to listening to this on my commute!

Are you currently travelling or travelling soon?

I have nothing booked at the moment. Some summer sunshine sure would go down well here in Melbourne right now. Brrrr. (It's not that cold, of course, but it feels cold enough and no-one knows how to insulate houses down here, so I swear it's colder than my youth in England!)

Oh, you are from England? Nice. I am a cold weather fan. People think I'm crazy, but I guess it's my New England roots. I've somehow started to love the beach even on really hot days as well. My husband who is from England has helped me discover this. Tom and I talk about this 'issue' of summer travel always being in the summer... Hope you enjoy it :)

I go by Kate; I know it's confusing. Once we are friends, I am Kate. So call me Kate! :)

Oh and I am traveling soon to the southern France near Montpellier and later in the summer to Istria (Croatia). We get cheap and cheerful seaside apartments and spend most of the time outside!

I know it's winter there, but what about you?

Oh that's right, you said a while ago about France. Lovely. And Croatia .. stunning!

I have a very short window between semesters in July, but my wife is very busy at the moment and I doubt we'll get away for more than a handful of days. A proper holiday will have to wait until the end of the year, I think. But I'll be grateful for a few cosy days out somewhere in country Victoria, away from the city.
